By Dave Miller, Chairman
It has been an incredible start to the year for the Newtown Men’s Shed. As I sit in the tea room looking out at the new community allotment, I’m struck by how far we’ve come in such a short time. But as Chairman, my job is to look at what’s next on the horizon.
Expanding Our Reach
Our goal for 2026 is Integration. We want to be more than just a building on the Old Mill Estate; we want to be the heartbeat of Newtown. This means:
- Intergenerational Projects: We are currently in talks with the local youth centre to start a “Repair Café” where our members can teach teenagers how to fix electronics and bicycles.
- Health Advocacy: Following the success of Dr. Grant’s talks, we are looking to partner with the NHS to offer more regular health screenings right here in the Shed.
- Sustainable Workshop: We are aiming to be 100% self-sufficient for our timber needs by 2027 through our upcycling and reclamation initiatives.
We Need Your Input
The Shed belongs to its members. At our next AGM, I’ll be asking for volunteers to join sub-committees for these new projects. Whether you have ideas for the garden or want to lead a new metalwork class, your voice matters.
Thank you for making this Shed what it is. It’s a privilege to be part of this crew.
Join the conversation: What would you like to see the Shed achieve this year? Catch me at the tea break on Wednesday.
